Colon Cleansing Foods


There are some specific foods that are believed to be best for eliminating wastes and toxic matters from your colon. These foods are popularly known as colon cleansing foods. Diet containing such foods has proven benefits for a healthy colon.

Fiber should be an important constituent of your diet. Vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains have high fiber content. They are an essential and non-digestible component of food. A high fiber diet actually supports a healthy digestive system by sweeping the wastes that accumulates inside the colon. Fiber also exercises the intestinal tract.

A certain quantity of soluble, as well as insoluble fiber is required for colon cleansing in your every day diet. Insoluble fiber is known to eliminate waste and prevent constipation. Soluble fibers are known to increase beneficial bacteria. Flax seeds and oats are good sources of both soluble and insoluble fiber. Other food items high in fiber content are brown rice, barley, cabbage, beets, carrots, peas, citrus and apples, to mention a few.



Fresh fruits and vegetables are good to begin your list of colon cleansing foods due to the high fiber content. Some of the best vegetables to include are broccoli, onions, garlic and beets. Apples, grapes and citrus fruits can be good choices in fruits. Whole grains are another good choice in colon cleansing foods, and can include brown rice, buckwheat and unsalted nuts and seeds. Legumes have very high fiber content as well, making them good candidates for colon cleansing foods. Try to include lentils, garbanzo beans and green and yellow peas.

Strictly avoid caffeine, sugar, white flour, aspartame, microwave-cooked food, hydrogenated fats and deep fried foods, which results in pounds of unwanted matter forming in colon.

Water is the best natural colon cleansing agent. It is very important to remove toxic wastes from your body. An insufficient amount of water in the body causes constipation and toxicity levels to increase. Drinking lots of water is necessity for colon cleansing. The optimal levels can vary between 6-8 glasses of water every day.

Green foods that contain a high amount of chlorophyll like alfalfa, barley, wheatgrass and spirulina are beneficial for natural colon cleansing. The chlorophyll component is known to soothe and heal damaged tissue in the digestive tract. They also help the body draw more oxygen and remove toxins.


Fresh vegetable and fruit juice help your body cleanse. There is no fiber or pulp that needs to be digested so the vitamins and minerals are quickly absorbed and used by your body. The extra nutrition of fresh made juice will strengthen your body, which will allow you to cleanse and eliminate more old buildup over time. The live enzymes of fresh juices help your body heal itself. Vegetable juice is best for healing and building strength in your digestive tract. Fruit juice is best for flushing your body and best when diluted with water.

If you are worried about sugar in fruit juice, your bodies do not use the natural sugars from fresh made juice the same way it does processed sugar. If you decide to heal or cleanse with juices, be sure to make it fresh using a good quality juicer. Bottled and canned juices do not work the same way as the enzymes are dead.

Another good choice in colon cleansing food is yogurt, because it contains an important ingredient known as L. acidophilus. This good bacterium keeps your entire digestive system clean and healthy, and is especially important to add to your diet when you are taking antibiotics for an infection. L. acidophilus also boosts your immune system, making it beneficial to your body as a whole.
